First Year of Creative Mornings
I celebrated my one year as host of Creative Mornings San Diego by having Angie Chandler speak on the theme of Freedom. Angie is from Brooklyn, the birth of Hip Hop. She is a spitting image of Hip Hop culture from her caribean back ground to her relationship to it’s birthplace. and brings her skills of strategy, poetry, history and art to the museum world. . From the way she displays her vulnerability.
understand that most celebrations come in different forms. But giving space to people is an end to itself. Philosopher Immanuel Kant said, “Rational human beings should be treated as an end in themselves and not as a means to something else. The fact that we are human has value in itself.” I write this and immediately thing of how much Angie would question me bringing Kant into blog written about her. Kant up with Angie to juxtapose a new enlightenment. The celebration of a year of host of Creative mornings was about the practice of being in someone else’s freedom. We become what we abcored and the freedom to change and transform is the new enlightenment that Angie allowed me to process.
is a meansEver since taking over this white creative space putting black women at the forefront has been key. This is a belated blog celebrating my 1.5 years as Creative Morning host. A goal that I have growing anxiety about. Crowns are beautiful but they are heavy. So I remind myself not to get in my own way, because when I do that I get in the way of the community.
