Ramel Wallace is the Senior Community Manager at BAM. Ramel is responsible for research, development, and manages BAM events in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders. Ramel is also BAM’s Office manager and assists in administrative roles. Prior to BAM Ramel was the CEO & Founder of thChrch and an active participant in bridging the gap between art, tech, and creativity. His roots in Hip Hop have allowed him to turn his ability to control a crowd into an ability to run an office and lead a community.

Ramel (Real J. Wallace)
is a San Diego native and a recording artist for the past 10+ years. He is an educator, poet and Hip Hop storytelling artist. He has been working with video production teams for the past 5 years refining his storytelling capabilities. Ramel co-founded thChrch, a creative incubator and community space. He is currently the owner of The Holyfield, a former community music studio and now media company. He is a board-member of the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art and He is now the first Black host of Creative Mornings San Diego.

1988.

I was born in San Diego, California. The same year that the Jamaica bobsled team made its Olympic debut, Larry Holmes died, Coming to America was released, Roy Jones Jr was robbed and NWA dropped Straight Outta Compton. Rolling Stone claims this is arguably Hip Hop’s greatest Year.

2008.

For the past 12 + years Ramel has been a poet, Hip Hop Artist, & producer by the name of Real J. Wallace. He has released albums with former Universal artist Blu, Soulection’s Abjo and has opened up for Talib Kweli, Adrian Younge, Action Bronson, Prayers and many more. Hip Hop taught Ramel about leadership, marketing, branding, public relations & storytelling.

2011.

Ramel starts working in the education system as a supervisor and a teaching artist. He co-founds Breakbreadtv, a student ran program at Platt College. Ramel worked in education for 6+ years.

 

2014.

Ramel became the CEO of The Holyfield, an organization focused on Creativity & Identity and co-founded thChrch, a creative incubator in the historic Barrio Arts District. Landing placements with 9five Eyewear, the Grammys, Delta Airline, NBC, Air BnB, BAM, XXL, The Source and more.

2017.

Ramel became known as The Last Black Man in Barrio Logan after paying an ole to The Last Black Man in San Francisco and telling his story. His Great-grandma moved to Barrio Logan in the 60’s during the 2nd Great Migration. This is also the same year he brought Air BNB Experiences to San Diego.

May 2019.

Started working for BAM the Agency as the Community Manager, BAM is a full-service marketing and communications agency that believes stories move the world, “We move stories forward for technology-driven brands that challenge, change, and create entire industries.

Dec 2020.

He was announced as the new host for CreativeMornings/SanDiego. Becoming the first Black host of CreativeMornings/SanDiego
